Trained in architecture, Kig Veerasunthorn and Brendan Pettersen are designers based in New York City.
In addition to architectural projects, we design and build furniture and other domestic objects. Our objects are repetitive and open-ended to be suggestive of a larger whole—as if they were capturing a small swath of architecture.
These objects are as much physical products complete unto themselves as they are parts of our own ongoing studies of proportions, materials, and the resolution of joints between the parts of the whole—the architectural concept of “tectonic” applied to furniture and furniture-like objects.
Through close contact with the objects themselves as we build them, we learn with our hands and eyes, honing our understanding of their tectonic behavior. At their conception we design one joint that through its repetition could support an entire piece across all of its points of material connection.
From these simple ideas of observation and editing we produce objects that are primitive and artless, and as systematic as they are intuitive.
